Hail to the Thief Radiohead (2003)
I'll try and write a proper length review at some point but for the moment this is all you're getting.
Radiohead return with new album Hail to the Thief in grand form, in what seems like an attempt to bridge the gap between the song-writing of OK Computer and the experimental noisescapes of Kid A and Amnesiac.
For the most part it is an obvious progression of the band's style - a logical step forward from the previous two albums. But there seems greater emphasis on the construction of each song this time around.
Highlights of the album are 2+2=5, Sail to the Moon (similar to Pyramid Song), Go to Sleep, The Gloaming, and Myxomatosis. To be honest though, there are no songs on the album that I don't like.
It's not going to be an easy album to listen to for those who weren't big fans of the previous two but persevere give it a chance and I think you'll be pleased.

[Review: Album] "Hail to the Thief" by Radiohead

hanohtep is saying is that the material world doesn't work that way
"Goat Boy is here to please you..."
I love it, and I love the message it sends. Its certainly an album steeped in the events in the world since Bush came to power. The lyrics, album sleeve, recent interviews and album title make it hard to ignore, though in typical radiohead style the tracks are a lot more subtle than typical protest or political songs.
"Your alarm bells, your alarm bells
They should be ringing, they should be ringing."
It will be hard for me not to hear that every time some shocking event takes place now, especially in relation to the Bush War on Terror.
Still, one of the phrases in the artwork is not so subtle...
Doppelganger. Body Snatcher. Shape Shifter. Money Grabber. Bribe Taker. Child Killer. Vote Rigger. Mother Fucker. ...money for the generals.
Its so impossible to tell from the mass media as to how cynical or aware of whats happening people are, so one of the few indicators I can cling to with some hope is the sucess of Radiohead and books like Stupid White Men. I shall watch with interest to see how a jumpy America reacts to this latest case of famous people saying "oy fascists - noooo!", well kinda.
