Why can I never remember where hosts is?

Is it:

a) because I'm a dumbass
b) because I should write it down on my paper based password list that I should really keep on my desk visible at all times because it's more secure that way
c) because WINDOWS/system32/drivers/etc/ is a REALLY stupid place to keep something which has nothing to do with drivers, etc, system32, and notably, Windows?!

Also, and the reason why this topic exists in the first place:

WHY DO I NEVER BACK IT (AND HTTPD.CONF) UP WHEN I REINSTALL?!!

Yeah I never do that

Forgetting dhcpd.conf sucks more though

I phoned up our user support services the other day about a DHCP problem - it was picking up the IP but not the gateway, and so couldn't get through to anywhere. Got a response back: "Seems the elves have been at the DHCP server and buggered most of it up. Will give you a phone in a while"
